ISIS EVENTS

In keeping with its mission to promote innovative technological research across all segments of the Duke community, ISIS regularly plans and helps coordinate a diverse array of engaging campus events. ISIS events bring together faculty, students, and outside guests into a common space to encourage the intense investigation of current topics of importance to the study and practice of information science and information technology. Many are archivedon the Duke iTunes site. ISIS events include:

• original technology-infused artistic performances, such as the FreeSpace and soundSense collaborations;
• major academic symposia and conferences, such as the Podcast Academy V, Duke Podcasting Symposium, the Music & Theft conference and the Thinking Through New Media graduate student conference
• individual public lecture events, such as Artist/Inventor/Entrepreneur Michael Joaquin Grey and Entrepeneur/Author Stuart Brand;
• community workshops and tutorials, such as the ISIS Macromedia Flash Workshop and the Stuart Moulthroup Hypertext Workshop; and
• ongoing community speaker series, such as the CSEM-ISIS Visualization Forum and ISIS Tech & New Media Tuesdays.
• informal events, such as the HASTAC Town Halls and the ISIS Game Nights
• course-related events, such as invitations to guest speakers Mary Flanagan and Ian Bogost, and trips to NC State and Virtual Heroes for our Focus Cluster, Game2Know

ISIS Tech & New Media Tuesdays (TNMT)
Alternating Tuesdays, 12:00-1:00 PM

The goal of this biweekly lunch forum is to create a shared dialogue around innovative uses of technology that spans Duke's faculty and graduate student research and IT support communities. In doing so, Tech & New Media Tuesdays fuels increased collaboration and integration among Duke's technology developers by allowing members to pool resources and expertise while reducing redundancies and replicated work. Each Tech & New Media Tuesday session features a 30-40 minute project presentation by a member of the community followed by an open discussion. Lunch is provided at each meeting. CSEM-ISIS Visualization Friday Forum

Jointly sponsored by the Center for Computational Science, Engineering, & Medicine (CSEM) and ISIS, The Visualization Friday Forum seminar series is a forum for faculty, staff and students from across the university to share their research involving the development and/or application of visualization methodologies. Our goal is to build an interdisciplinary community of visualization experts whose combined knowledge can facilitate research and promote innovation. Lunch is provided at each meeting. During the 50 minute venue, an invited speaker gives a short (30 minute) presentation. The remaining 20 minutes are available for informal discussion among participants.
